Two hours north of Boston and Hartford, the Upper Valley is easily reached by interstate highways. Major towns with all services include Woodstock, White River Jct., Lebanon and Hanover, home of Dartmouth College. The lay of the land puts two thirds of the 30 by 60 mile region on the Vermont side of the Connecticut River and one third on the New Hampshire side.

By Air. Manchester, NH airport is the closest (1.5 hrs) and the most hassle-free, Hartford, Ct. is also convenient via I-91. Burlington, Vt. is one hour north via I-89 and Boston/Logan two hours south.

International visitors should consider including Montreal, three hours to the north, as part of any biking excursion. As one of the world’s most bike-friendly cities, its river and canal-side trails are worth a special trip.
